Shahid Afridi Tests Positive For COVID-19
Shahid Afridi announces on twitter that he has tested positive for coronavirus.
On 12th June former Pakistani cricketer, Shahid Afridi said that he tested positive for coronavirus. Afridi
played for Pakistan between 1998 and 2018. He has played 27 Test Matches, 398 ODIs and 99 T20
Internationals. Afridi announced on Twitter, "I have been feeling unwell since Thursday(11th June) and my
body is aching badly. I have been tested and unfortunately, I am COVID positive. Need prayers for a speedy
recovery, InshaAllah." Afridi is the second international cricketer from Pakistan to test positive for the virus.
Last month Taufeeq Umar tested positive.
So far, Pakistan has over 1, 32,000 cases of coronavirus with 2,551 deaths. Since the past few weeks, there
has been a rapid rise in the numbers of cases in Pakistan. Since the starting weeks of the coronavirus
outbreak, Shahid Afridi has been engaged/involved in relief work in Pakistan.
Last month he was also in controversy due to his comments on Kashmir and India's Prime Minister Narendra
Modi. Based on the statements of Afridi, Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir and many former and current
Indian cricketers also spoke against it. Other cricketers who have tested positive for coronavirus are
Scotland's Majid Haq and South Africa's Solo Nqweni. International cricket is currently at standstill due to the
outbreak of coronavirus. In Pakistan, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was suspended before the knock-out
stages. However, international cricket is soon to start next month with West Indies playing a three-match Test
series against England.
