Shaktikanta Das Elected as the Governor of RBI
Shaktikanta Das is appointed as the the 25th Governor of the RBI.
The Government appointed Shaktikanta Das as the 25th Governor of the Reserve bank of India for the next 3 years. He was appointed 24 hours after Urjit Patel Resigned. His sudden appointment shows that the government did not want to waste time and wanted to take action.
Shaktikanta Das is a 61 year old IAS officer from Tamil Nadu. He was the Economic Affairs secretary from 2015-2017.
The earlier Governors were elected in a time of Financial Crisis. This time the task before Das is very different. He has to maintain the relationship between the Central government and the RBI. His first challenge is the board meeting scheduled for friday.
The Governor has to make sure the Government does not interfere in the workings of the RBI. The government believes he is extremely qualified and will do a great job of managing the economy.
