Ship From UAE to Kerala To Be Launched This Year
New passenger ship service linking UAE and Kerala to offer cost-effective travel for Keralites living in the UAE.
Since many many years travel mode has changed a lot. Before planes became popular and easily available, giant steamships carried travelers. However, now there are plans to start passenger ship service between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the southern Indian state of Kerala. A lot of Keralites live in UAE and other gulf countries. This ship will be a convenient and affordable way for them to travel.
The project is being led by Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) in collaboration with a private company called Ananthapuri Shipping and Logistics Private Limited. The Kerala government and its department named Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (Norka), which focuses on issues of non-resident Keralites are supporting the project. The delegates of the Kerala government will meet India’s Central Government ministers to get approval for the project. If the central government approves, the ship will have a trial run in November and then start services in December so that Indians in the UAE can travel to their hometown during vacation without paying exorbitant airline charges.
The ship would sail to two cities in Kerala: Kochi and Beypore. It will take about three days to complete the trip between UAE and India and can accommodate 1,250 passengers at once. Up to 200 kg of luggage per passenger would be allowed. There will be a varied variety of food and entertainment for the passengers on board. The ticket prices range from Rs 10,000-Rs 15,000. However the government said that people have to keep aside a huge amount of money from their salary to pay for flight tickets. But the ship service will be cheaper and help save money.
