USA’s Simone Biles is a superstar gymnast. She had won 4 gold medals in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Biles is the only American gymnast to win so many medals and is regarded by many to be one of the greatest gymnasts of all time. She is 24 years old. Biles had also participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan. Everyone thought that even this time Biles is going to win medals for the USA. Biles even won a silver medal in the women's team event on 27 July. She was supposed to take part in gymnastics matches. However, she made a shocking announcement on 28 July. Biles announced that she would not continue in the Olympics anymore. She said this is because she needs to do what’s right for her & focus on her mental health and well being.

She said, “I don’t trust myself while performing as much as I used to. I am more nervous while doing gymnastics. I want to have fun while doing gymnastics but it's not fun anymore. Everyone said I will be fine and I should continue but I know I am not fine. I don’t want to participate and lose a medal for my country. My teammates know how confident and focused I am. This is why when I explained to them my feelings they understood and fully supported me. I am sad I have to take such a step but I have to focus on my mental health. I want to tell everyone out there, if you're stressed, depressed, or do not feel strong mentally, always choose your mental health, take a break to get well. If you do not do this, you will never succeed.” Support for the gymnast poured in from around the world following her withdrawal from the team final. People from across the world applauded Biles for taking such a difficult decision. However, there were many negative comments as well with people calling her a quiter.
