Smriti Irani's Election Advisor Shot Dead
Two days after BJP leader pulled off the biggest upset of the Lok Sabha elections, her close aide Sirendra Singh was shot dead at his residence.
On 23rd May 2019 Smriti Irani emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. She successfully beat Rahul Gandhi and has now become a Member of Parliament (MP) of Amethi. Her close polling aide Surendra Singh who worked very hard for her to win the elections. Smriti Irani said that it was because of him that she was able to win the elections. On 25th May four gunmen entered Surendra Singh’s house and fired bullets into him while he was sleeping.
He was rushed to Lucknow’s KGMU hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. His family members have alleged the murder could be motivated by political rivalry in the context of the 2019 Lok Sabha election. His son Abhay Singh said that the elections result has upset many people. This may be the reason for his death. The three men mentioned in the family’s complaint were arrested after the police conducted raids. Ms. Irani flew down to Lucknow after which she drove down to Amethi to meet the family of the victim.
She attended the funeral procession and even lent a shoulder. Smriti said that she wants the death penalty for the killers. She will make sure she fights for justice. After Congress President lost the election in Amethi he released a statement and asked Smriti Irani to, “Take care of Amethi with love”. After the death of her close aide she has said, “ I have received the message loud and clear.”
