A CRPF Jawan and a civilian baddies died due to firing between the army and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
On Wednesday 1st July morning, one jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was martyred and one civilian killed when terrorists opened fire at a patrol party in Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir. Three other jawans were injured. This terrible incident confirms that militancy is still there in the Valley, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The attack happened when security forces were busy checking the area. Director-General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh confirmed the news and added that the entire area has been cordoned off. Jammu and Kashmir Police said a search is on to catch the terrorists. The civilian who died, was in a car when the gunfire started. His three-year-old grandchild was accompanying him. But due to the firing, the man died. The boy was then rescued by the police.
The official Twitter handle of Kashmir Zone Police released a picture of the boy. He was being consoled by an officer. Other images went viral on social media that showed that the child was traumatized. He had a packet of half-eaten biscuits in his hand and cried as he sat inside a van. Another heartbreaking image showed him sitting on top of his dead grandfather.
SHO Azim Khan described the rescue operation as challenging. He said, "When we reached the site, what we saw was disturbing. Our priority was to evacuate the child. It was very challenging as terrorists were firing. The child was going to Handwara with his grandfather.” Last Friday 26th June, a similar incident happened in Anantnag district.
