Spain Gives Special Visa for Indians

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa is not only for Indians but for all non-European citizens who want to work remotely while living in Spain.

Recently, ISH News had released a video about the UAE’s Golden Visa for Indians, which became viral. But later, it was confirmed that the news was fake. Now, similar posts are going around claiming that “Spain is giving a special visa for Indians.” But the truth is a little different.

Spain has introduced a Digital Nomad Visa, but it is not just for Indians. It is open to all non-European Union citizens – including Indians, Americans, Australians, Canadians, and many more. This visa was launched on 22nd December 2022 under Spain’s Startup Act, but it started becoming popular in mid-2025.

This visa is meant for people who work remotely – which means they work for companies outside Spain but want to stay and enjoy life in Spain. If you apply for this visa from outside Spain, you get a 1-year permit, which you can renew every year, up to 5 years. After that, you can also apply for permanent residency. If you are already in Spain on a tourist visa or any other visa, you may directly get a 3-year permit – but it depends on your situation.

The cost of this visa is between ?15,000 to ?16,000. This includes the application fee, renewal charges, fees for the Foreigner ID card (called TIE), and extra costs like notary fees, document translations, and so on.

To be eligible, you must be a non-European citizen and over 18 years old. You must also either have a college or university degree or at least 3 years of work experience. A clean police record for the last 5 years is also required. You need to show proof of remote work – like a valid job contract or a client agreement that is at least 3 months long. You must have private health insurance and earn a monthly income of at least €2,760 – which is about ?2.5 lakh.

Your family can also come with you – your husband or wife, partner, and children – but you will need to show extra income proof if you bring them along. You can apply for the visa from your home country through the Spanish Embassy or Consulate. If you are already in Spain, you can convert your tourist or Schengen visa into the Digital Nomad Visa – but this must be done within 90 days of your arrival.

So, it’s clear that this is not a “special visa for Indians” – but yes, Indians are very much eligible. And it’s not only Spain – other countries like Portugal, Greece, Costa Rica, and Taiwan are also giving such remote work visas. It’s becoming a global trend, and Spain is part of this new wave where skilled digital workers can legally stay and enjoy life in beautiful countries while continuing their jobs online.

If you’re a digital worker dreaming of Spain – are you ready to apply?
