India is now reporting more cases than any other country in the world. Principal Scientific Advisor to the Central Government Dr. K Vijay Raghavan said, ‘The third wave of COVID-19 is "inevitable”, given the higher levels of circulating virus, but it is not clear on when the 3rd wave will occur. We should be prepared for new waves. The BCCI said that it is thinking of postponing the men's T20 world cup which was supposed to be held in India in October. They said since the COVID infections are continuing to increase, none of the teams would be comfortable coming to India. The 3rd wave of the Coronavirus is also expected in October-November 2021.
Since the IPL was also suspended, chances are the same will happen to the T20 World Cup. BCCI officials have had meetings with top officials in the Central Government and moving the tournament to the UAE has almost been agreed up. But no formal announcement has been made yet. There is an ICC meeting in June, where the final decision will be made.
