Thane Civic Official Loses Fingers in Attack
Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the TMC was supervising an anti encroachment drive. An angry vegetable vendor attacked her, and cut two of her fingers.
A few days ago, an anti encroachment drive was held by the Thane Municipal Corporationin Kasaravadavali in Thane. Kalpita Pimple is the Assistant Municipal Commissioner with the TMC, supervising the drive.
Her team reached the cart of the vegetable vendor named Amarjeet Singh Yadav. They turned his cart upside down, and all his vegetables were scattered on the road. Pimple and her team moved ahead. Just then, Yadav attacked Pimple with a knife from behind. Pimple turned around and tried to protect herself by using her hands to block the knife. In the process, two of her fingers were cut off.
Pimple had her private security guard who rushed to save her. His name is Somnath Maruti Palve. The vegetable vendor attacked him too, and he too lost one finger.
There were a number of other police personnel present, but it all happened soo fast, that they had no time to react.
In a video, the vegetable vendor can be seen standing with a knife. As the police went close to him, the vendor said “don't come near me. Just say what you want me to do. I will come with you wherever you want me to come, you can hang me if you wish. I will slit my throat. It's really painful. It's my right to live on this earth. I am a poor man, can’t I just earn peacefully on this earth and live? No one can help me. Not even you, I know.”
The police were able to catch the man and took him to the police station. A police source said Yadav had no past criminal record and has been selling vegetables in Thane for many years. He told the police that he was angry that his shop had been destroyed, and attacked Pimple, as he thought she was responsible.
Kiran Khairnar is the Senior Police Inspector of Kasarvadavali police station. He said that the vendor has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code for attempted murder, assaulting and stopping a public servant while performing duty.
Pimple and her bodyguard were taken to Jupiter hospital in Thane, where they received medical care, and their fingers were stitched back.
Sanjay Hirwade is the Additional Municipal Commissioner of TMC. he said that they are not afraid of such cowardly attacks on their officials. Instead, they will take stricter action against such illegal hawkers and builders. If needed, they will also ask for more security force.
