Tripura DM to be Investigated for Bad Behaviour

The story of Tripura District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar Yadav has become the viral news. Yadav became famous after a video of him raiding two weddings in Tripura and him thrashing a groom went viral on April 27. Yadav had raided the weddings because according to him, the wedding had permission only till 10pm but still the festivities were going on. The video showed him pushing the bridegroom, arguing with the families, ordering the arrest of several guests present there, and tearing up a written permission for the function reportedly signed by himself. Over 30 people were arrested and released later
Following this, the DM faced major backlash from politicians, netizens and locals, while many others showed their support for the DM. The bride’s mother, Sabita Deb alleged that, “Yadav pushed people around and assaulted them. He pushed around and hit people. We will never forget the torture we have been subjected to. Never had we imagined that one of the happiest days of our life will take this bizarre turn.”On being asked why the wedding was extended beyond 10 pm, she said, “You know how weddings are, the muhurat was for 11:30 pm, so we were all there.” She added that they were all detained for two hours that night by the DM and were released after the local police intervened in their support. The wedding rituals were completed later.
The DM, however, apologised for his behaviour Tuesday, after facing a major backlash. “I apologise if any individual or group is pained by last night’s action,” Yadav told reporters in Tripura. “But what was done last night was only for the benefit and well being of people. My aim was not to pain or humiliate anyone.” Opposition parties and the BJP lashed out at the State government and demanded action against the District Magistrate. The Tripura government on 28th April constituted a panel to investigate the conduct of the District Magistrate. The investigating panel comprises IAS officers & they have been directed to submit the report as soon as possible. There were many rumours circulating that Yadav was fired but that is not the case.
