Nine days before completion of four years as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned on Tuesday 9th March 2021. He said that it was now time for someone else to lead and be the CM. 

Trivendra Singh Rawat returned from New Delhi after meeting BJP president JP Nadda, handed over his resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya. The Governor accepted Rawat’s resignation and asked him to continue on the post until a successor takes charge. A meeting of the BJP legislature party has been called Wednesday 10 March morning to elect the next Chief Minister. Asked about the reason for his resignation, Rawat said that it was a collective decision and for an appropriate answer, you will have to go to BJP Headquarters, Delhi  

Rawat expressed gratitude to the BJP for giving him an opportunity to serve Uttarakhand as Chief Minister for four years. The main reason cited for his exit is the growing discontent among MLAs and leaders in the state unit. Rawat made many decisions which were not liked by the MLA and other leaders. There were many complaints about it. But there was one decision which angered BJP, RSS and VHP. That decision was to pass the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Bill. According to this law, 51 shrines would be controlled directly by the state government. A leader said, “There was no consultation with the state leaders nor with the central leadership. The Chief Minister took decisions with some bureaucrats at his side and completely ignored the party and his cabinet colleagues.
