Uber Fires 3,500 Staff on Zoom Call

Uber has fired 3,500 employees over a Zoom call, due to a severe fall in business.

Amid this Coronavirus pandemic, Uber, USA made a zoom call to 3,500 staff. The call was for less than 3 minutes. Ruffin Chevaleau is Uber’s Head of Customer Service and made a call to 3,500 Uber employees. 

During the call they were informed that it was their last day of work. They had been dismissed. She informed the staff that business is down by more than half. There is not enough work for the staff. This is why they are eliminating 3,500 staff. She said that today will be your last working day with Uber.

During the call, she was very sad and her voice cracked. She said “no one will want to be fired on a call like this.” Chevaleau said that since Uber’s business has reduced, even the staff needs to be reduced. 

Uber said that it was not easy to fire so many employees and it is all because of the sudden spread of the COVID-19. The company has made sure to give all employees a strong severance package. 

Between January - March Uber reported a net loss of $ 2.9 billion. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO has said that he will forgo his salary for the remaining

months of this year due to the corona pandemic.
