Ujjain: PM Modi Inaugurates the Mahakal Lok Corridor
PM Modi inaugurated the Mahakal Lok project on the evening of 11th October and also inspected the project along with Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Ujjain.
The Mahakal Lok Corridor of the Mahakaleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh’s holy town of Ujjain, measuring more than 900 metres in length, is expected to boost Madhya Pradesh tourism. The project was built at the cost of around Rs 850 crore and will allow the pilgrims visiting the temple to experience world-class amenities. The project will be completed in 2 phases. The 'Mahakal Lok' corridor has been built around the old Rudrasagar Lake, which has also been revived in the project, and the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the 12 'jyotirlingas' in the country that attracts lakhs of devotees every day.
Two gateways called the Nandi Dwar and Pinaki Dwar - have been constructed near the starting point of the corridor. A structure made out of 108 stambhs made of beautifully carved sandstones, gushing fountains and a running panel depicting the Anand Tandav Swaroop (Dance form) of Lord Shiva and life of Lord Shiva are among the major highlights of the corridor. The project also includes a park, a multi-storied parking lot for cars and buses, a florist and other shops, solar lighting and a facility centre for pilgrims.
PM Modi inaugurated the Phase 1 of the Mahakal Lok project on 11th October 2022. Before inaugurating the corridor, PM Modi, attired in traditional dhoti and gamcha (stole), performed puja at Lord Mahakaleshwar temple. After inaugurating the project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also inspected the corridor. While addressing the gathering after inaugurating the project, PM Modi said that spirituality is everywhere in Ujjain. He added that Ujjain has led India's prosperity, knowledge, dignity and literature for thousands of years. Innovation comes with renovation. India is renovating what it had lost in the era of slavery under the British rule. However, now, India is renovating it and restoring its glory. Cultural destinations across India are seeing all-around development. Twitter feeds of various government departments and other agencies were also filled with images of the Mahakaleshwar Temple after the opening by PM Modi.
