UP Cop Shoots Woman In Police Station By Mistake
In Aligarh, a woman was mistakenly shot in the head by a police officer during passport verification, sparking allegations of harassment and bribery.
In a disturbing video, a woman who went to a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh for passport verification was on 8th December mistakenly shot in her head with a pistol belonging to a Sub-Inspector (SI). The incident was captured on CCTV. Ishrat (55) was visiting the police station for a query related to her passport. She was planning to visit Saudi Arabia for Umrah. The video shows her standing with a man waiting for her turn when the cop is handed a gun by his colleague. The cop is seen testing the gun when the shot is fired and the woman collapses to the ground. The accident took place around 2:50 pm. Ishrat was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where her condition is said to be critical. Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Principal Dr Manzoor Harris Khan said, "The bullet is still lodged in her head. A decision to operate upon her is still being reviewed." However, the family claimed and alleged that the woman was being harassed for money by the officer in charge of her passport verification. An argument followed and the officer shot her. A relative, Jeeshan said, "She had visited the police station for a passport enquiry. She was getting calls for money. Don't know who shot her. Don't know about the money demanded. There was an argument between them." An X user said in a post, “Police tried to take away Ishrat's son, an eyewitness in the case who had accompanied her to the police station for Passport verification. The family alleges an argument for a bribe before the shooting incident. Is the police trying to protect the police officer?" The accused policeman is missing. Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP, Aligarh said, "Inspector Manoj Sharma has been suspended with immediate effect due to his negligence and a criminal case has been registered against him. The injured woman is being treated by the doctor's team, and the footage of the incident is being investigated. The woman was hit in the back of the head, the officer said, adding that teams have been formed and strict action will be taken against the accused policeman.
