The Uttar Pradesh Police has uncovered a racket in Ghaziabad in which teenagers were allegedly being manipulated into converting their religion through an online gaming platform.

The Ghaziabad police have arrested Abdul Rahman in connection with the alleged conversion. Meanwhile, another person – Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo – is on the run. Rahman was reportedly a cleric at a mosque in the Sanjay Nagar area of Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, the second accused Shahnawaz Khan hails from Mumbra in Maharashtra. A police team has been fanned out to Maharashtra to arrest Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, the alleged mastermind. They allegedly intended to target young impressionable minds and lure them into religious conversion through an online gaming app called ‘Fortnite’. Four minors were identified – two from Ghaziabad and one each from Faridabad and Chandigarh – who were converted through this modus operandi. According to the police, when teenagers used to lose the game, they were asked to read verses from the Quran if they wanted to win. And when they won, their interest and belief (in the Quran) would increase.
Accused Shahnawaz alias Baddo had formed a team of some Muslim boys. This team used to trap Hindu minor boys in a very cunning way. These people used to join an online gaming app posing as Hindus and used to target Hindu boys. However, as soon as Shahnawaz came to know about the arrest of Maulvi Abdul Rehman, he fled away from Mumbra. They were also reportedly shown videos of radical Muslim preachers Zakir Naik and Tariq Jameel to further persuade them to convert their religion.’ During the investigation, it was revealed that a chatting engine used to have other children from different parts of Europe, indicating that they had an international connection. These children were initially Christians but were later converted to Islam.
