Village to Stop Spending on Festivals
A village in Aurangabad have decided to reduce expenditure in religious activities and utilise it for building a school.
When the Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Oh My God!’ was released, it showed people the amount of money that is wasted on religious practices.A lot of Milk, honey, ghee, dried fruits, etc are offered to idols which ultimately end up in the dustbins.People spend a lot of money on decorations for god as well. Lakhs and crores of rupees are spent every year. Don’t you think that it would be better if that money and resources were spent on something more meaningful?
A village in Aurangabad, Maharashtra has decided to do just that. They are going to reduce their expenses on religious activities and use that money to develop schools in aurangabad. There is already a school in that area. The villagers have planned to upgrade the school to “international standards”. They have purchased a 2-acre land for this. The villagers decided to reduce the amount of money spent on various religious events such as tents, sweets, and food. From now, if there is any religious programme only dal will be prepared as prasad and everyone has to bring their own portion of rotis.
There are 450 houses in the village. Each house that owns less than 5-acre land, will contribute Rs 1,000.
Houses that own more than 5 acres of land will contribute Rs 5,000. The panchayat has till now contributed Rs 50,000. All this money will be used to make the school.Besides that, the villagers are seeking help from the government and CSR schemes of private corporations.240 students study in the school and students from other villages also come to this school. We hope many more places do the same. More than religious events, the focus should be dedicated to the education of children.
