Violent Riots in USA Over the Death of George Floyd

Minneapolis, USA has become an epicenter of unrest, as protestors cause riots and lootings, after the death of George Floyd.

Many protesters are showing anger by protesting for the death of George Floyd, a black man who stopped
breathing after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes. Derek’s
wife has filed for divorce after the incident. Curfews were forced in many US cities after clashes with the
protestors. Demonstrators ignored warnings from President Donald Trump that his government would stop the
violent protests. Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta and many other cities are ordering people to stay indoors
overnight as National Guard soldiers have been called to help control the situation.
In Seattle, New York and many other places thousands of protesters demanded tougher murder charges and
more arrests for Floyd’s death. Shop windows were smashed in Philadelphia. Looting occurred in Miami and
Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, officers fired rubber bullets and threw batons in standoff with demonstrators who
set fire to a police car. Police officers responding to projectiles with pepper spray. Many protests have been
arrested in Minneapolis, Seattle and New York. Protests happened even outside America, i.e. in Toronto in
Canada. President Trump said, "We must not allow a small group of criminals to wreck our cities. My
administration will stop mob violence.” He accused a group called Antifa of orchestrating the violence.
In some places there were peaceful protests and demonstrators chanted slogans such as "Black Lives Matter"
and people laid on the ground, with their hands behind their back and chanted "I can't breathe.” This is
because Floyd was heard repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe” before he died. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz
said that he was using the full 13,000 National Guard to deal with rioters who have looted shops and set fires
in the Minneapolis area. Earlier people gathered and chanted peacefully in Minneapolis. They carried brooms
to help clean up damaged shops and streets and some of them placed flowers in front of the shop where
Floyd was arrested before his death.
All major freeways going towards Minneapolis were closed on Saturday night with military helicopters
overhead. There were violent protests outside the White House as well. Due to this, Trump’s security team
has taken him to an underground bunker for his security.
