Viral Video: Woman Appears To Walk On Water
An elderly woman recently grabbed the attention of social media users after a viral video claimed she walked on the waters of the Narmada River in Jabalpur.
A video going viral on social media shows a crowd gathered at the bank of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh where an old woman wearing a white sari is seen walking on water. The incident took place in MP’s Jabalpur district on 8th of April. After the woman’s video was posted on Twitter, locals rushed to the scene to witness the “holy” walk on water. People were quick to jump to conclusions and saw the woman as a “goddess” who could do the impossible and walk on a liquid surface without getting wet or drowning. Moments after seeing this, people started calling her “Maa Narmada.” Some people claimed she was the Daughter of Narmada. People gathered to seek her blessings. The crowd soon turned the whole situation into a festival to welcome the goddess and played the drums around the shore to honor the goddess. Soon, the police arrived at the scene to investigate the reason for the commotion. In an interview, the woman very honestly identified herself as Jyoti Raghuvanshi, a resident of Narmadapuran, a village in Madhya Pradesh. She had left her home without informing anyone 10 months ago and was simply trying to perform a Parikrama around the bank of the river in an act of devotion.
Jyoti clarified later that she was never walking on water. She explained how the river has different water levels throughout its stretch. In her attempt to circle the river, Jyoti revealed that she walked in areas where the water level was low while it appeared as if she was walking on water the whole time. Also, her clothes dried as she came out of the water to pray. She emphasized that there is no miracle involved. In her clarification, Jyoti shared that she also swam at times when the water of the river rose beyond her height. Some people also claimed that she had healing powers but Jyothi clarified that she only gave people advice based on her knowledge of different medicines. The family had filed a missing report when she left home and stated that she was mentally unwell. The police safely brought the woman to the river bank and contacted her family, even arranging for her to be taken back home by the family.
