WHO Team Reaches China to Investigate Coronavirus Origins
After almost a year since the Coronavirus pandemic started, a team of 10 WHO scientists have reached Wuhan, China to investigate the origins of the virus.
After almost a year since the Coronavirus pandemic started, a team of 10 WHO scientists have reached Wuhan, China. The scientists will investigate how the Coronavirus started and spread across the world.
The researchers would have to quarantine in Wuhan for two weeks after which they can begin their investigation. Just last week, WHO Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed disappointment as China didn't give the necessary approvals for the team's visit until the last moment, because of which one team member was stuck in a transit country. The Chinese government for more than a year, tried to stop scientists from going to China and carrying out investigations related to the coronavirus. In April 2020, when Australia demanded an investigation, the chinese government stopped the imports of Australianbeef, wine, and other items.
Months later, in July 2020, two WHO officials were allowed a visit, but they couldn't enter Wuhan. Now that a WHO team has reached Wuhan, it is not sure if the investigation will be successful. This is because CHina has imposed strict restrictions on the team. China is also not giving the team access to Chinese research and data on the coronavirus. For the first time in eight months, China reported one coronavirus-linked death. This is why China imposed restrictions on nearly 20 million people in Hebei, Beijing, and other areas, as new infections have increased.
