Will Virat Kohli Retire as India’s Captain?
According to various reports, Rohit Sharma may replace Virat Kohli as Captain in white-ball matches after the T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli has captained India in 45 T20 Internationals matches and 95 ODIs. Now there has been a lot of news that Virat Kohli will step down as India’s captain after the T20 World Cup which will be held from October 17 and go on till November 14. They say Kohli will step down and Rohit Sharma will assume the captain position for whiteball matches. Reports say that Virat has realised that because he is the captain he is not batting properly. If Rohit takes over as whiteball captain, Virat can continue being captain of India’s red-ball matches and practise batting for T20 and One-day matches. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal on 13 September said “The news reports about Virat stepping down as captain is absolute rubbish. The BCCI has not discussed anything on this and Kohli will continue to be captain for all matches. This is all media creation.”
India and England had played 4 test matches in England but the 5th match was cancelled due to fears of COVID infection in the Indian team. After the match was cancelled, Kohli and other members of the Indian team flew to Abu Dhabi to join their respective IPL teams for the upcoming IPL tournament. They will be quarantined for 6 days before they join the team for training.
