Winter Session of Parliament Cancelled Due To Covid
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that no winter session of Parliament will be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Budget Session is likely to be held in January 2021.
On 3rd December Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The letter mentioned a number of issues such as farmers' agitation, status of Covid-19 vaccine, Chinese intrusion, economic slowdown and unemployment and for a short Winter Session. In reply to the letter, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that no winter session of Parliament will be held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Budget Session is likely to be held in January 2021. Joshi in his letter said that winter months are crucial for managing the pandemic because of recent spurt in cases during this period, especially in Delhi. He said, “At present we are in the middle of December and a Covid vaccine is expected very soon. In this regard, I have informally contacted leaders of various political parties and they have expressed their concerns about the ongoing pandemic and opined of doing away with Winter Session.”He added, “The government is willing to have the next session of Parliament at the earliest and that it will be better if the Budget Session is held in January 2021.” Slamming the government for its decision to not hold Parliament’s winter session the Congress said if election campaigning can be done amid the pandemic then why can’t the session be held.
