Woman Demands Rs.1 Crore for Getting Non-Veg Pizza
Deepali Tyagi a resident of Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh has filed a complaint against American pizza restaurant chain outlet for delivering a non-veg pizza in a house of pure vegetarians.
On March 21, 2019, Deepali Tyagi ordered a vegetarian Mushroom pizza from American pizza restaurant chain outlet at her residence at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to her the pizza was delivered late as opposed to the 30 minutes delivery time given by the company. However, she ignored that and took a bite of the pizza. At that moment she realised that it was a non-vegetarian pizza and there were pieces of meat instead of mushroom. Tyagi immediately called customer care and raised a complaint about their negligence and delivering a non-veg pizza in a house of pure vegetarians. Then, on 26th March 2019, the district manager of the pizza outlet, called Deepali and gave an offer of serving pizzas to the whole family at the outlet free of cost.
However, Deepali told him again that this is not a simple case, as the company had spoiled her religious practices and she will have to follow several long and expensive rituals which will cost her lakhs of rupees.
After listening to the woman, the district manager replied that since he is not authorised to negotiate in terms of money, he would hand over the matter to their own legal team. Upset over the incident, she filed a complaint at the consumer court and has sought compensation of Rs 1 crore from the restaurant chain. Consumer courts are special courts. If you have bought a product or service, and if you feel the seller has cheated you, a complaint is to be filed in the consumer court. Deepali Tyagi said that the response from the opposite party was "very casual", an offer of serving pizza free of cost was nothing but a "mockery and insult to her social and financial status"
The petition also said that it is her religious belief that God has given life to animals and by killing and eating an animal, its life is cut short. But the negligence of the pizza company had made her break her belief and caused mental agony for lifelime. She strongly believes that eating meat is ‘paap’. Hence Deepali Tyagi complained and urged the consumer court to direct the pizza outlet to provide the claim of ? 1 crore and also to pay the compensation for mental harassment and financial hardship caused. A Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has asked the pizza outlet to file a reply to the woman's complaint and has listed the matter for further hearing on March 17.
