Women Guard MP Village to Control COVID Infections
As the rest of the country grapples with a deadly pandemic and COVID-19 numbers continue to rise, this village in Madhya Pradesh has managed to keep the virus at bay.
While the number of infections in states across India are increasing, a village named Chikhalar village in Madhya Pradesh has not recorded a single COVID infection till now. Do you know who is responsible for this? It is not a police or village panchayat but the women of the village are responsible for not a single COVID infection in the state. The women sealed the boundaries of the village by placing a bamboo barricade next to a poster that prohibits the entry of outsiders.
The women are all dressed in sarees and armed with sticks stand at the border of the village and make sure nobody enters the village. They have also imposed a complete lockdown in the village. No one is allowed to leave their houses. Instead of having villagers go outdoors to do important work, two youths have been assigned to get the work done for everyone. If the women see anyone walking around the village for no reason, they hit the people with their sticks. They say they took this tough decision to safeguard its people from the deadly virus. Chikhalar has set a wonderful example for not just villages but even cities in India to follow.
