With over 1 Billion TV Viewers and 700,000 ticket requests it was one of the most anticipated matches of this World Cup.Pakistan won the toss and chose to send India to bat first. Pakistan hoped their bowlers would take advantage of the favourable conditions for fast bowlers. However Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul had a strong opening partnership of 136 runs. Rohit Sharma stayed on to reach a score of 140 runs before being caught by Wahab Riaz. After Rahul’s wicket Kohli replaced him and scored 77.
Kohli also broke records as he became the fastest player to ever reach 11,000 runs in ODI matches,in 222 innings. Breaking the record held by Sachin Tendulkar who did it in 276 innings. Kohli is the ninth highest run-scorer in ODI’s. Kohli was a controversial wicket, after a hook shot that he missed the ball went into the hands of Pakistani wicket keeper Sarfaraz, Kohli thought he nicked the ball and walked off the pitch without the umpire giving a decision. On later review it showed the ball had never touched the bat and you could see him visibly angry in the dressing room.India ended their innings at 336-5 after a short delay due to rain, but still managed to complete the 50 Overs.
